Values work is the process of exploring, clarifying, and aligning one’s life with a set of core values. It involves asking yourself: What principles and qualities matter most to me? These values can serve as a compass, guiding your actions, decisions, and way of being in the world.

Doing this work is foundational for personal growth, individuation (the integration of the conscious and unconscious self), and living with greater authenticity. Understanding what drives you, excites you, and feels deeply meaningful can foster a deeper sense of self-awareness and alignment.
Our values aren’t fixed—they evolve over time. As we grow older, gain life experience, and step into new roles, our perspectives shift. What once felt essential may fall away, while new values emerge with clarity and strength.
In relationships, shared values form a deeper foundation than surface-level attraction. They shape how we navigate major life decisions—such as career choices, financial habits, and time management—and often underlie recurring conflicts. Many relational tensions stem not from the issue itself, but from differences in core values.
I’ve created the following plan for myself as part of my individuation journey:

- Identify my current core values
- Describe what each value means to me
- Reflect on where these values come from
- Assess how my life currently aligns with them
- Live in greater integrity with what I discover
🔹 This process isn’t about perfection—it’s about honesty, curiosity, and returning to what truly matters.
These are the values guiding me right now. Each one is a compass point on my individuation journey—a return to self, wholeness, and conscious living.
Self-Awareness
A commitment to inner observation.
This value is about tuning into my inner world—thoughts, emotions, triggers, and patterns—without judgment. I’m in a season of shedding old narratives and learning to discern what is true for me, beyond cultural conditioning or inherited expectations.
Authenticity
Living and expressing my truth.
To live authentically means releasing the masks I’ve worn and showing up as I truly am. It’s not always easy—it can challenge others’ expectations—but I am learning to speak with my own voice and honor my own desires.
Growth
A devotion to evolution.
Growth means embracing discomfort and change as necessary parts of the journey. I am a student of life, and I don’t want to stay where I’ve been. This value serves as a reminder that transformation is the point—not something to avoid.
Wholeness
Integration of all parts of self.
This value invites me to welcome every part of who I am—even the shadow. Inspired by Jungian psychology, I view wholeness as the profound process of embracing the parts I once rejected, allowing me to live in complete alignment, rather than fragmentation.
Wisdom
Inner guidance over external approval.
I’m learning to trust my inner compass. Wisdom isn’t about knowledge alone—it’s about discernment. It helps me move from “shoulds” to “truths,” and reminds me that real guidance doesn’t always come from outside.
Vitality
Sustainable aliveness.
Vitality is about honoring the body and spirit through nourishment, rest, movement, creativity, and connection. It’s not about hustle or perfection—it’s about aliveness that’s balanced, grounded, and sustainable.
Intentionality
Living by design, not default.
This value calls me to live with awareness. To choose how I spend my time, my money, how I speak, how I relate, how I rest. It’s about aligning my actions with what matters most—and letting go of unconscious patterns that pull me away from my truth.
Closing: Living in Alignment
This work is not a destination—it’s a devotion. As I walk this path, I know I will shift, stumble, and evolve. But now I have a framework I can return to: a compass rooted in clarity, not confusion. These values aren’t rules to follow, but reminders of who I am when I’m fully present and alive.
By identifying what truly matters to me, I’m no longer moving through life on autopilot—I’m choosing, moment by moment, to live in alignment. And that, to me, is the essence of individuation: becoming more fully myself.
If you’re feeling called to explore your own values, start by listening inward. The truth is already there—quietly waiting to be named.
